Empowering farmers to live off more than $1 per day.
Over 70% percent of the population in Africa lives off of agriculture. It's climate and soils are highly conducive to intense agricultural production, and its potential is promising. East Africa's lush landscape makes it a leading exporter of tea, coffee, and tropical flowers. However, amid the natural resources the people experience vast discrepancies in wealth, power and opportunities which contribute to many social problems. Furthermore, Africa is largely a cash based society. High school costs $300/year for each child, which is equal to the average annual income of a typical farmer. Shoes and clothes must be bought and basic medical care is costly. Electricity runs through the entire country, but most cannot afford the $250 fee that will connect it to their homes. Planting Faith works not only to help rural African farmers earn a living but also to live abundantly in Jesus Christ -- to be able send their kids to school, to put food on the table and know that their farm business will provide for them tomorrow.
We believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God. We believe in the Holy Trinity and the Bible to be the inspired Word of God. We believe the Church is to bring people into the Kingdom of God: not only making disciples by preaching salvation, but also healing the brokenhearted, proclaiming liberty to the captives, recovering of sight to the blind, freeing those who are oppressed, and proclaiming the acceptable year of the Lord. (Luke 4, Jesus quoting Isaiah). While these are our beliefs, we do not require farmers, buyers or financiers to hold to these. We want all people to see the Lord at work and know that He is good.
Planting Faith organizes logistics for short-term mission teams. These trips provide invaluable experiences for volunteers, farmers and our staff. If you or a group would like to travel to Africa and serve with farmers please contact us at email@example.com. Please note the trips are Christ centered, not adventure centered (though there will be adventure), and team members often say their trip has been a life changing experience. Come experience Africa with us. "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few" (Matthew 9:37).
